Inspiration

I always found emojis very interesting and fun, especially when I was bored. I wanted to create something playful with emojis so that others could experience the same joy and amusement I did. This passion for visual language and creative puzzles sparked the idea for Emoji Escapade.

What it does

Emoji Escapade displays a sequence of emojis that hint at a famous phrase, movie title, or trending topic. Players enter their guesses and receive immediate feedback. A timer adds an element of challenge, making each round fast-paced and exciting.

How I built it

I developed Emoji Escapade using Reddit’s Devvit platform with a webview approach. The front end is built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, ensuring a responsive and visually appealing experience that fits seamlessly into Reddit’s interface. By leveraging Devvit’s interactive post features, I integrated dynamic state management and real-time feedback into the game.

Challenges I ran into

  • Troubleshooting and debugging the code were major challenges for me—especially since it was my first time deploying something to Reddit. Learning the interface and getting the code to run or display any output proved to be difficult in the early stages.
  • Additionally, instead of manually sorting emoji puzzles into distinct categories, I couldn’t find a robust API solution to automate this process.

What I learned

Despite the initial challenges, I successfully built Emoji Escapade after repeated trials. Through this project, I learned a great deal about debugging, troubleshooting, and understanding Reddit’s Developer Platform. The journey was challenging but ultimately rewarding, as I gained new technical skills and a deeper appreciation for interactive web development.

What's next for Emoji Escapade

Moving forward, I plan to expand the puzzle library with new and creative emoji sequences. Future updates may also include features for user-generated puzzles, enhanced scoring systems, and additional game modes to keep the community engaged.
