Inspiration
Emo Corner was inspired by a simple thought: people may not always know the perfect words to help someone, but they can still make a small moment for them.
Instead of replying with advice alone, another person can build a world using objects, words, music, paths, and movement. The person receiving it becomes a Chrononaut who travels through these worlds and through time, carrying the moments others created for them.
The idea is to turn community care into something people can enter, explore, and remember.
Judges Guide
For the fastest way to test Emo Corner, including the mode toggle, scenarios, racing-car world, posting flow, Space Journey, and Time Room:
What it does
Someone shares a feeling. Another Reddit user turns it into a small interactive world.
The maker can place objects, write short words, choose music, and shape a scene around that feeling. Different scenarios can become nature spaces, underwater worlds, dream roads, space journeys, or time rooms.
The main hook begins after posting. The finished corner becomes a journey: the Chrononaut enters it, collects coins, travels through space, and carries the words placed by others into a time room.
Emo Corner turns a Reddit post from something people only read into something they can build, enter, and remember.
How we built it
We built Emo Corner as a Reddit Devvit Web experience using React, TypeScript, Phaser, and Devvit.
React handles the main product flow: sharing a feeling, the waiting room, the Section Builder, object and text placement, the timer, posted scenes, the coin room, space travel, and the time room.
Phaser is embedded inside the dream-blocked Section Builder scenario. It powers the racing background, movable car, keyboard and touch controls, rotation, engine sound, and the trail created while the car moves.
Scenario-based presets connect each feeling to its background, music, objects, and interactive world. When the maker posts the corner, the arrangement of objects and words is preserved so the final post reflects what they actually created.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was combining a normal scene builder with interactive game layers without breaking the timer, object placement, text tools, or posting flow.
We also worked through responsive sizing inside Reddit, Phaser and React layering, touch controls, canvas clipping, asset transparency, sound behavior, and keeping each emotional scenario visually different while still feeling like one connected product.
Another challenge was preserving the created scene after posting so the Chrononaut sees the same world the maker designed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that Emo Corner became more than a static message or a single mini-game.
It connects community-created worlds, movable objects, written words, music, a racing experience, coin collection, space travel, and a time room into one continuous journey.
We are also proud that each posted corner preserves the maker’s arrangement, making every world feel personally created rather than automatically generated.
What we learned
We learned that small interactions can communicate care differently from ordinary text replies.
We also learned how to combine Devvit, React, Phaser, sound, touch controls, scenario mapping, and saved scene data inside one Reddit experience.
Most importantly, we learned that a world does not need to be perfect to feel meaningful. It matters because someone made it for another person.
What’s next for Emo Corner
Next, Emo Corner will connect feelings and comfort worlds between real Reddit users using Devvit storage.
We plan to add more interactive worlds, collaborative building, reactions, moderation, accessibility improvements, saved journeys, and ways for Chrononauts to revisit the moments others made for them.
