Inspiration

We wanted an easy way to track your carbon emissions from the comfort of your iPhone.

What it does

Our app allows users to track how many carbon emissions they make from three main categories: electricity usage, flights, and drives.

How we built it

We started with brainstorming the project functional requirements and non-functional requirements. We wanted to make sure it meets the expectations of the user. With these in mind, we moved onto wireframing. Through wireframing we were able to illustrate how we wanted our app to look, as well as design the database and manage the api calls we would need. Next we started development. We divided the workload evenly by assigning one category to each group member. We communicated heavily in order to ensure the pieces fell into the right place. Once finished, we did a final survey to make sure the app was what we wanted it to be.

Challenges we ran into

Originally, we had planned to include an iOS widget in our app, however, in the interest of time we decided it would be best to drop the widget. Furthermore, the apis we wanted to use did not end up satisfying the project requirements. During our development phase, we reconvened and selected other apis that would help the project in better ways.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team is proud to announce we have successfully built a working iOS app from scratch.

What we learned

We learned the importance of brainstorming and wireframing; the most integral part of the process.

What's next for Emissions

In the future, we would like to revisit the widget to allow users to see their data without opening the app.
