Smart Air Quality Sensor – Personalized Environmental Health Monitoring

We propose a credit card-sized air quality sensor that attaches to the back of a smartphone, enabling real-time monitoring of environmental conditions that directly impact human health. This compact device measures key air quality indicators including temperature, GPS location, particulate matter (PM), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Health Impact Focus The device is designed to support individuals affected by air-quality-sensitive conditions such as: Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),Cardiovascular Disease, Lung Cancer, Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Infections

Smart Dashboard & Mapping Data collected by the device is transmitted to a user-friendly dashboard that: Provides personalized air quality insights. Generates a dynamic local air quality map using both user-generated and publicly available data Offers real-time alerts and notifications as users move through areas with poor air quality. Allows users to opt-in to share data, improving map accuracy and community awareness

Go-to-Market Strategy While our long-term goal is to integrate this device into preventive care programs for patients with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular conditions—potentially covered by insurance—we will initially position it as a consumer wellness product. This phased approach mirrors successful strategies used by biotech startups, allowing us to build traction and validate the technology while engaging healthcare professionals for future clinical adoption.
