I was first interested through connecting to the SSH server which I hadn’t done before, and also the dataset provided. In my project I attempted to make my own dataset which was a map from each of the branches of the company to around 100 chosen cities and find the average CO₂ per seat, rather than of the entire plane, so that I could search this dataset rather than refiltering it constantly to save time. My first issue was that there was lots of missing data. For example, LHR to SYD did not have TOTAL_SEAT data. So I approximated this by just using the plane type data to find total seats of the type of plane. I then once calculated the table of values for CO₂ per city travelled to I saved it as a CSV. I then when I have my attendees I iterate through the available cities and multiply the amount of attendees by the avg CO₂ per journey per person. If the journey does not exist it adds a huge number to the total. Then once I have my dictionary of total CO₂ to every location I simply looked for the city with the smallest value. Then I made it spit out an HTML of a map to show the user a visualisation of the city. The annoying part of this was getting a map of each city to their lat and long. This was annoying as the dataset I found had multiple cities of the same names sometimes in the same country. So even after filtering by city name and country I had to fix a few fringe cases manually. Now I saved all my cities that I am searching coords to a CSV so I could reference it again. Now I made a function that spits out a map using the coords of the attendees’ city and the coord of the chosen least CO₂ city.
