Inspiration Emergencies can happen anywhere, and immediate assistance can save lives. The idea for this system was inspired by the need to provide quick and efficient emergency responses within a campus environment. We wanted to create a system that enables people in distress to call for help seamlessly while ensuring their location is shared with the right personnel.
What it does The system allows individuals in need of help to send emergency alerts through an app. If their location is enabled, it is shared with relevant authorities like the college medical department, teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and volunteers. If the location is off, the IP address is used to estimate their position. Nearby people can also be alerted through an alarm system.
How we built it We designed a mobile application that integrates emergency alert features.
Location tracking was implemented using GPS and Wi-Fi-based IP detection.
Notifications were integrated to alert predefined contacts and campus security staff.
An automated alarm feature was added to notify nearby individuals.
Challenges we ran into Ensuring accurate location tracking, especially when GPS is disabled.
Managing privacy concerns related to location sharing.
Integrating real-time alerts without causing unnecessary panic.
Coordinating responses between different teams efficiently.
Accomplishments that we're proud of Successfully implementing a location-based emergency response system.
Ensuring rapid alerts reach the right people.
Balancing privacy concerns while prioritizing safety.
Developing a user-friendly interface for easy access to emergency features.
What we learned The importance of a quick-response system in emergencies.
The need for multi-channel communication (SMS, push notifications, alarms).
How to optimize location detection using different methods.
The role of volunteers and staff in emergency management.
What's next for emergency under the campus Enhancing AI-based location prediction for better accuracy.
Integrating automated voice calls for emergency alerts.
Adding wearable device support for easier activation.
Implementing real-time tracking for emergency responders.
Expanding the system to cover larger areas beyond the campus.
