Inspiration
One day, I saw an ambulance stuck in traffic on a snowy day in Toronto. The ambulance was not able to move for 20 minutes. I felt bad for the patient that is waiting for that ambulance because medical service should not delay at all. So we decided to create an app that will help ambulances and the medical services to get to their patients faster.
What it does
It will track an ambulance location and send a message to the hospital of the ambulance location. It also shows the shortest route for the ambulance to take without traffic
How we built it
We use android studio to take advantage of google maps to help us with the coding.
Challenges we ran into
We had problems using the map library and Andriod studio because we are used to coding on Apache Netbeans. It was the first time trying it out and we spent all night learning it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we were able to make a simple app at our first hackathon. We didn't think we would be coding at all at our first hackathon. We are becoming more confident in our work and will be participating in more to improve our programming skills
What we learned
We learned how to use google maps features in our code which is something that we never thought was possible.
What's next for Emergency GPS Tracker
The app we made has very simple features. If we were to continue working on this app, we would return an estimated time for the ambulance to return to the hospital. Also, we would improve the ambulance's route to make sure it is taking the fastest route possible at that time. Furthermore, we would create an area on the app where a doctor can give medical advice to the patient to help with treatment as the ambulance is on the way
