Inspiration
My inspiration comes from the fact that a lot of the times I end up calling the police because I'm unsure at times whether I hear fireworks or gunshots in my area. Furthermore, last year in the wildfire during the spring semester I didn't know whether to stay in gainsville to attend my classes or leave in case the wildfire ended up filling the place with poisonous fumes or I would have to evacuate.
What it does
It's a web application that lists emergencies in gainsville on a map and also descriptions of said emergencies so that people can be more informed about the sort of important and possibly dangerous events in gainsville.
How we built it
I built it with React front end, Django backend, and Neon DB (PostgresSql) database. I also used leaflet which is an npm package for the map.
Challenges we ran into
Formatting with the map and also overscoping as in the end we had to remove certain features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Somehow connecting that back end into the map's front end.
What we learned
I learned Django framework and I also learned how to use node packages to shorten the work load and how to read the documentation for it.
What's next for Emergency Gainsville
To make finalize the login feature and create a way for officials to get verified by hand is the first. Furthermore, making a phone notification to all users when an event is created or updated.
