Inspiration
Our inspiration came from the struggle we all went through in the great Texas Snowstorm that left many without power or water. We saw there was a need to bridge the gap between residents and local government. Something that would use location and media in real-time to help spread the word of their crisis or ability to help.
What it does
This platform incorporates Google maps and media by being able to submit events to pin drops and show everyone around what is going on. Submissions include the event name, type, description, and address along with the ability to upload media such as images, gifs, or video. This will populate a pin drop on Google maps and present event information with any media gallery that was submitted.
How we built it
We made a web service with Nodejs and javascript to tie in Google API's and produce real-time results. It is back up by Google Cloud Storage for all the media submitted. We incorporated bootstrap to make it accessible to all mobile phones.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble migrating Goole Cloud Service for the first time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud that this project is a great starting point to make crisis communication when needed.
What we learned
We learned how to use multiple API's. How to use real-time communication protocol.
What's next for Emergency Crisis Platform
Expand to Google Cloud Database to sustain larger numbers of users. Create a chat platform between users.
