Inspiration

Our inspiration for the idea came from some of the key benefits of Ayurvedic practices: seeking treatment through natural means, therefore sidestepping the nasty side effects of several allopathic drugs like Advil or Robitussin. At the same time, natural products at home like lemon and honey are more affordable options for most. In addition, during covid times, medical care is not as accessible as it once was, and although we do not believe homemade remedies can be a substitute for professional care, it would give those in need a way to use what they have at home to cure simple ailments.

What it does

Emenedy is an app for people to look at home remedies for minor health issues like headaches or dry skin. The platform allows for users to create their own profile and personalize their homepage with different home remedies and related articles. Along with tailored content, users can interact with each other and share their experiences with home remedies using the community sharing feature. In this way, users can explore natural and inexpensive alternatives to pharmaceutical medicine.

How we built it

We used python to code the interactive portion of the demonstration in the console application. We then used Figma to design the UI of the app.

Challenges we ran into

We originally wanted to build a website along with the app where we would be able to host the community forums and natural recipes, but ran into too many challenges using HTML and CSS since they were fairly new to us. So we resorted to creating a console application for a general demonstration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to create a super cool interactive UI design on Figma. We're also proud of the possibilities for our project since it emphasizes affordable, simple, and resourceful remedies.

What we learned

We learned how to improve our UI and design skills to efficiently organize our app. Our collaboration and communication skills were also improved since we were able to work together in an online environment. We were also exposed to HTML and CSS for the first time. Hopefully at the next hackathon we will be able to use these skills to design a live website.

What's next for Emenedy

We plan to make this a working website and have users be able to maintain real profiles. We hope to integrate more advanced features too once we have a working application and website in place, one of which is a page to promote local businesses that sell all-natural products.
