Inspiration
I love a good idle tapping game, definitely one of my favorite genre's. But there's never been enough outer space themes to match my "Galactic" personality.
What it does
In this game you are going to bring a dying star back to life, and over the course of your journey reignite the galaxy!
How I built it
Using 100% Claude, I was able to get a quick prototype thrown together, and with lots of testing by friends and family, I asked Claude to make 100s of changes that improved the experience into the slick prototype you'll see today!
Challenges I ran into
There were a number of bugs that Claude would inevitably code in, but with some patience and persistence, I was able to explain the problem so that Claude could fix it.
Additionally, I had dozens, if not hundreds of dreams, ideas, and features I wanted to add. But finding a few core game loops that are fun became my focus very early on, and allowed me to stay on track to make a polished game prototype.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The game is fun, and I had time to make it look and sound pretty great for a prototype. I am super excited to keep pushing on this. Even my kids love it and say they'd play it.
What I learned
I've recently been learning to code in Typescript, and this code being in JavaScript was quite similar. It definitely pushed on my understanding as both a coder and a game developer.
What's next for Ember
The full game will have a lot more features for players, like: daily quests, stats, leaderboards, login rewards and streaks. Offline stardust earnings, so when you come back there's a hefty reward to get your next session started. From planets to universes: there will be more space themed content to explore. I'd also like to add a star map for players to track their progress.
