What it does

It allows users of Kiva's website to embed a loan image and link that displays up-to-date funding information about the loan. This image can be embedded on their personal websites, or sent out in emails. Outside of organic use of the feature, Kiva's teams could utilize these loan cards in their messages and personal sites to promote lenders they support.

How we built it

Using Vue.js, Kiva's component library, Kiva's public GraphQL API, and the existing code for generating live loan images that's available on Kiva's GitHub.

Challenges we ran into

I think there's more investigation merited to take this from hacakthon project to production, to ensure large traffic volumes to someone else's site with our loan cards on it, or say an email blast someone else sends won't negatively effect Kiva.org.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It builds off the work that I've has done with Kiva's live loan cards and styleguide components, so the turnaround for this hackathon was fairly quick.

What's next for Embeddable Loan Cards

I can imagine a more customizable view where a user could decide what information to display on the card, and perhaps a "minimal" or "expanded" template. I can also imagine embedding a true loan card made of HTML instead of an image. Having some chats with power lenders and Kiva team captains could be helpful to see what features they might use.
