Inspiration
This is one of the protagonist characters I've created for a 2000s Saturday-morning cartoon inspired artbook project of mine, where a hotheaded teenage hero and a calm and collected robot vigilante travel across the universe in action-packed adventures to stop the evil forces attempting to take it over.
ELS-0037, or codenamed Elise, is that cool robot vigilante. She fights with breakneck speed and deadly precision to keep her city safe from any threats big or small, and will always try to put on a cool image of herself, but rest assured, there’s a kind and helpful heart who’s willing to do anything to protect those in need under the titanium alloy shell. I've always been a huge fan of sci-fi and mecha genres, especially in terms of the representation of robots as a symbol of technology and human wisdom's potential, and how they can be utilized as a force of good. Last but not the least, "kick-ass robot girl vigilante" has been a long-time golden standard of action game/animation protagonists to me. As a result, I aimed to make a robot character that captures some of the aforementioned qualities, while visually simple and distinct enough to be replicated in animated projects or video games.
What it does
This character sheet provides a 3-point turnaround view of Elise, as well as depicting her antics, personality and behavior with images instead of words by showing a few of her in-character facial expressions alongside with an action shot. All of the elements can be used for reference if she were to be animated or modeled in animations or video games.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The linework done on her was really smooth, and I kept a relatively simple color scheme on her. I tend to have this problem of overcomplication whenever I design robotic characters, but I tried my best to limit excessive mechanical detail on Elise here.
What's next for Elise?
Hopefully I can get to put her and every other character in my artbook project in a comic, or a short 2D animation project, or even 2D side-scrolling platformer in the form of sprite animations! I'm also thinking of adding extra refinement to her character sheet by introducing how an average sentient robot vigilante works through detailed concepts of things like mechanical parts, Elise's weapons and gadgets and a few more action poses where she utilizes them in combat.
