Inspiration
The inspiration behind Elpis was a talk by Crisis, a charity that helps the homeless, in which we were told that there is a very small team which connected the homeless to employment. We took this as an opportunity to add some automation to the system.
What it does
Elpis stores profiles of users and employers as well as a collection of jobs. Users can search for jobs and can see if they're a good fit based on if they posses the skills listed. Elpis highlights the skills which are missing or underdeveloped.
How we built it
We used Python Google Cloud Functions which connected to a group of Firestore collections. The front end was built using HTML5/CSS as well as JavaScript to interact with the backend.
What we learned
We learnt how to use Firestore, especially when combined with Google Cloud Functions.
What's next for Elpis
In the future we would like to add the ability to gain additional skills on the platform. We would also like to allow users to verify their skills on the platform to gain profile badges which would then act like a CV to employers.
