Inspiration
Understanding is relational. A learner can remember a definition and still miss the cause, dependency, or contrast that makes an idea usable. Ellipsis turns that invisible gap into something a learner can inspect and repair.
What it does
Ellipsis is a teach-back learning instrument. A learner explains a concept in their own words. The app maps supported, partial, missing, and conflicting ideas, then asks one Socratic question about the most important missing relationship. The learner repairs the explanation and tests whether the idea transfers to a new situation. The result is a portable learning card.
How we built it
The browser is a React + Vite + TypeScript app with a reducer-driven session state machine and a deterministic SVG concept-map layout. Serverless API routes validate requests and model responses with Zod, rate-limit calls, and keep the Groq key server-side. Curated fixtures provide a clearly labeled Demo Mode so the experience remains reliable when a provider key is unavailable. Stable graph positions make the before/after repair legible instead of reshuffling the map.
Responsible AI
No account, audio, camera, chat, or persistent learner profile is required. Explanations are sent only after learner consent. The UI labels Live analysis versus Demo mode, and no live AI result is claimed for this submission because the connected Groq account cannot manage an API key.
What we learned
The strongest interaction was not generating more content; it was making one relationship visible enough for the learner to repair it themselves. Accessibility also shaped the map: every visual node has a keyboard-accessible outline entry and evidence panel.
