Inspiration
Farmers have had trouble with spoilage of grain, as well as waiting in lines at the grain elevator.
What it does
We created an app that allows farmers to sell to buyers directly. The app also includes daily market quotes and weather/crop updates.
How we built it
We used the Flutter UI framwork to build a mobile application. As a cross-platform framwork, our app will be available on both the App Store and Play Store, to make it accesible to anyone. We plan to use a Sqaure API to support payment within out app securely, as well as the Google Maps API and Weather Channel API to support helpful functionalities for the consumer when they are deciding on their next purchase.
Challenges we ran into
Our team has a very diverse skill base, however, many of us were not able to work on the backend of the app. This resulted in a very barebones prototype of our app, but a great mockup design and presentation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Thinking of an app that could potentially help farmers for years to come, as well as creating the designs for the app.
What we learned
After interviewing farmers, we learned a lot about the business of farming, and the issues they run into.
What's next for Elevator
Including more types of farming, such as dairy, livestock, fruits/vegetables, etc. with the grains.
