Inspiration
The inspiration for ElevateHer stemmed from a striking statistic: in 2024, for every 100 men promoted to manager, only 81 women received similar promotions. This persistent gap reflects broader systemic challenges that women face in career advancement, often due to fewer opportunities to showcase their accomplishments or advocate for themselves in professional settings. I saw an opportunity to address this issue by creating a tool that empowers women to set and track SMART goals, capture daily achievements, and maintain objective records of their progress. With ElevateHer, my goal is to provide women with a supportive platform that strengthens their case for promotion or a raise through data-driven, goal-oriented accomplishments.
What it does
Building ElevateHer taught me the importance of designing a user-centered experience that not only aids goal-setting but also feels supportive and seamless. I gained insight into leveraging AI to create an intuitive and conversational interface, where users feel comfortable journaling their achievements. One key lesson was in crafting chatbot prompts that were both effective and natural. Through Replit, I worked on coding the app, and while I initially faced challenges with the chatbot’s ability to interpret complex prompts, I found that shorter, more direct prompts significantly improved performance. Using AI Studio, I refined these prompts further, ensuring they were concise yet powerful, allowing the chatbot to guide users toward solutions that aligned with the app's goals.
How we built it
To develop ElevateHer, I used Replit to integrate a variety of advanced technologies focused on creating a smooth, engaging experience for users. Google Gemini powers the chatbot, providing natural, supportive conversations to help users reflect on their day and document progress toward their goals. AI Studio was instrumental in fine-tuning prompts, ensuring the chatbot could accurately capture daily accomplishments that aligned with users' objectives. Streamlit was used to publish the web app, creating a clean, accessible interface that users can easily navigate for setting goals, journaling, and reviewing accomplishments.
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary challenges in building ElevateHer was ensuring the chatbot could accurately capture meaningful achievements without feeling intrusive. Striking a balance between natural conversation and structured goal-tracking required refining the prompts and chatbot responses for clarity and supportiveness. Working on Replit, I also encountered challenges with the chatbot’s prompt interpretation, initially leading to some misunderstandings. However, with more streamlined prompts and testing, I achieved the right conversational tone. Additionally, I wanted ElevateHer to be applicable to women across different industries, which required a flexible, adaptable system that could objectively track progress toward diverse career goals. Finally, maintaining data privacy was critical, given the sensitive nature of users’ career information.
What's next for ElevateHer
The next step for ElevateHer is to bring on 20 female users for an initial trial, gathering valuable feedback to refine the app’s goal-setting, journaling, and accomplishment-tracking features. Based on these insights, we’ll enhance ElevateHer to ensure it aligns with users’ needs, providing them with a supportive tool that empowers them to advance in their careers with confidence.
Future updates will focus on expanding functionality to make goal tracking even more seamless. Planned features include linking recorded accomplishments directly to goals, so users can see how daily actions contribute to long-term progress. Additionally, a recommendation engine will provide tailored suggestions based on users' profiles, helping them take actionable steps toward their career objectives. Notifications and reminders will also be introduced, allowing users to set deadlines and receive progress updates to stay on track.
Ultimately, our vision is for ElevateHer to become a trusted resource for women in the workplace, supporting them at every stage of their career journey. By partnering with non-profit organizations focused on women’s career development, we aim to make ElevateHer accessible to women who will benefit most from structured, data-driven career support. With ElevateHer, women can focus on their growth and achievements, confident that their accomplishments are documented and ready to support their next promotion or raise.
