Inspiration
The inspiration for Elevate came from observing how many people struggle to maintain a healthy lifestyle because of limited knowledge, lack of motivation, and inconsistent routines. Many individuals know they want to improve their health but do not know where to begin or how to stay consistent.
Through my research, I found that obesity, poor nutrition, and inactivity continue to affect millions of people worldwide. Existing solutions often require expensive subscriptions or provide generic advice that is difficult to follow. I wanted to design a free, accessible mobile application that simplifies fitness and nutrition while motivating users to improve themselves one step at a time.
What it does
Elevate is a mobile health and wellness application designed to guide users throughout their self-improvement journey.
The application includes:
- Personalized workout plans
- Categorized meal plans
- BMI Calculator
- Educational fitness articles
- Lifestyle improvement resources
- Easy navigation through a clean interface
- Motivational design inspired by successful habit-building applications
Instead of overwhelming users with complicated information, the application presents fitness knowledge in a structured and beginner-friendly way.
How I built it
The application was developed using Apple's Xcode IDE with the Swift programming language.
Before development, extensive primary and secondary research was conducted, including:
- Client interviews
- Focus group surveys
- Existing product analysis
- Academic research
- Industry reports
The interface was carefully designed around user feedback, with a strong focus on accessibility, simplicity, and motivation. Multiple wireframes were created before selecting the final design based on client and user evaluations.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was balancing functionality with simplicity.
There was a large amount of fitness and nutritional information that needed to be included, but presenting too much information at once would overwhelm users.
Another challenge was designing an interface that remained visually appealing while allowing users to navigate quickly between workout plans, meal guides, BMI calculations, and educational content.
Selecting colours, layouts, and navigation systems that motivated users without making the application feel cluttered required several rounds of redesign and user testing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud of creating a solution that is backed by research rather than assumptions.
The application was designed using client interviews, focus group feedback, product analysis, and evidence-based health research. I also successfully designed an interface that combines education, motivation, and usability into one cohesive experience.
Another achievement was developing a structured application that allows users to easily access health information without unnecessary complexity.
What I learned
This project taught me much more than app development.
I improved my skills in UI/UX design, Swift programming, user-centred design, research methodologies, and iterative product development.
I also learned how important user feedback is during every stage of development and how small design decisions can greatly influence user engagement and motivation.
What's next for Elevate
Future versions of Elevate will introduce AI-powered personalization that automatically recommends workouts, meal plans, and wellness advice based on individual goals and progress.
Additional planned features include:
- AI nutrition recommendations
- Progress analytics
- Habit tracking
- Exercise demonstrations
- Wearable device integration
- Community challenges
- Gamification through streaks and achievements
The long-term goal is to transform Elevate into an intelligent personal wellness companion that makes healthy living accessible for everyone.
