Inspiration
Connecting with loved ones after separating during a war is an arduous task and it requires a lot of data and man power. Refugees also require accommodation, but NGOs find it very difficult to help all of them during a war situation when they are in a huge number. This is the time that the citizen's wish to help these refugees by providing accommodations, but they fear authenticity of these refugees. So what if we can build an application that can connect these citizens to the NGOs who are in direct contact with the refugees and they can guarantee the authenticity of these refugees and these NGOs can help connect the refugees with their loved ones?
What it does
NGOs can leverage our web application to match refugees with their loved ones across different NGOs based on the previous location they have stayed in or their last name. It also provides a platform for patrons to help refugees in need of accommodation through the NGOs. We have the refugees details and the details on how many refugees the patrons(citizens) can accommodate and based on this information we can show matches and the NGOs can verify and take over the process from this stage.
How we built it
We used NodeJS for the MVC of the application and a NoSQL Database - MongoDB for maintaining the data.
Challenges we ran into
We are dependent on a government or centrally trusted entity to verify and authenticate the NGOs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to develop an idea that could help the refugees in need, though there are a shortcomings to this application.
What we learned
We learned team bonding and we learned on how to use our knowledge and experience to help the society, though we usually think this would be difficult, but by brain-storming and discussing with the team members about the possible solutions, we were able to come up with a solutions
What's next for Eleos
We can extend this application to help refugees in other categories like Food, clothing, finance, etc..
