Inspiration
When our team Bug Catchers started out thinking about what to build, we found Bloomberg's challenge more feasible to work on. So, we decided to choose environment conservation as a theme to build our hack. After minutes of discussions on the voice call, we decided to build a web application that encourages people to engage in simple acts of social responsibility through which they can get a step closer to a greener community.
What it does
Eleos, a platform where people can show their support towards a greener community by completing simple and socially responsible acts. We have a list of small acts of social responsibility (on our platform) that people can carry out in their everyday life. Our users can pin socially responsible acts they have done (small ones) to a geographic location (on a map). This is then visualized for the user so that they can slowly grow their sphere of influence and try new ways of being socially responsible.
How we built it
Our web application is built with React.js ( a javascript framework), REST API, HTML, CSS, and is hosted on AWS cloud.
Challenges we ran into
Most of the team members are beginners in web application development and are not familiar with the React.js framework. Since only one of the team members has experience in developing complex applications, we got trouble sharing the work among ourselves.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though most of us are amateurs, we managed to collaborate thoroughly and build this web application within the given timeframe.
What we learned
For most of the team members, this is their first hackathon. We got ourselves familiar with technologies like React.js, REST API, and AWS. We also learned a lot about backed development from our team member, sasirekha3 .
What's next for Eleos: A step towards Eco-Friendly Living
We will allow beta users to access our platform and collect feedback from them. Later, we aim to scale this web application furthermore for public release.
