Elementary school planner for immigrant parents

Overview of Project

Our website aims to bridge the communication gap between North American elementary school teachers and immigrant parents. Teachers can upload plans and notices for events and projects, and parents can access and translate them into their preferred language. They can also easily search for terms they don't understand and leave comments to ask questions or express gratitude.

Inspiration

The frustration of miscommunication with immigrant parents inspired our team to create a platform that would help elementary school teachers and ESL parents communicate better. We wanted to provide parents with access to their child's education information in their preferred language, ensuring equal education quality for ESL students and providing better support for their learning.

Target users

Our platform is designed for North American elementary school teachers and immigrant parents who do not speak English as their first language.

Process

As a team made up of a UX/UI designer and two full-stack developers, we worked together to suggest creative concepts and implement them into the project. We learned how to effectively communicate as a team and manage our workflow based on the interweaving design and development processes. After coming up with the main concept, we brainstormed features to implement. The designer created user flows and wireframes, and the developers worked on the front and back ends while actively supporting each other.

Challenges

Implementing the idea in development was challenging, but we persevered and created a platform that we hope will benefit both teachers and parents.

What's Next?

Although we were not able to implement everything exactly as the designer had envisioned, we had a great team experience and learned a lot from the project. We believe it has great potential as a product, so we plan to keep working on it over the summer. We will implement the remaining design elements, style the website, run user testing, and continue to improve it.
