Inspiration
So my inspiration was to create such a software which effortlessly tracks down devices carries in pockets during an examinations. As I have suffered a lot from this , like people bringing in devices and from the corner of the eye they counterfeit and so I devicced a software that can track hidden devices in the range of camera.
What it does
Electronics Inventory Tracker is an application created in Python, which helps manage and organize electronic inventory. It allows the user to add, "track" and, gain extra information on electronic items. The user also has the ability to report inventory and "track" item location and "status." The application has the use of a webcam integration to improve the usage of the system, while still being a simple, menu-driven application.
How we built it
The Electronics Tracker was built using a Python programming language and uses webcams for its computer vision aspects. A simple menu-driven user interface was developed into the system, which had various inventory management functions for users to add, track, and report electronic items. The crucial aspect of the development was establishing a functional product on top of the fully functioning inventory management aspect.
Challenges I ran into
During development, I experienced challenges with webcam integration and achieving accurate image recognition. Despite different lighting conditions, obtaining reliable item and image recognition was difficult. I also experienced issues optimizing databases for large inventories while balancing user experience for a simple interface while additional advanced features were present. In regard to cross-platform development, costs associated with testing and developing changes took longer as well.
Accomplishments that am proud of
The Electronics Tracker refines my technical knowledge and experience in Python programming and computer vision for the solution. Overall, I was able to create a complete functional inventory management system, capable of using a webcam as well for the solution. The project reflects my problem-solving skills, mindset, and attention to user experience. It demonstrates my genuine commitment to ideating practical solutions while also demonstrating a willingness to overcome technical misunderstandings, primarily in software development.
What's next for Electronic Gadget Detector using opencv
The Electronics Tracker could be adapted to an AI-enabled gadget recognition system using OpenCV. Plans may also include live object detection, ability to scan barcodes/QR codes, and mobile compatibility. The hope is to provide access to inventory via cloud storage and create predictive maintenance alerts for tracked devices, making it more useful and enjoyable to engage with.
