Inspiration
Our member, Atharv came up with the idea since electromagnetism is a highly important topic in real world appliances, engineering and that it could help us understand electromagnetism as we prepare to continue physics in high school
What it does
It simulates electric and magnetic fields with charges you can place and set the magnitude of the charge to. The fields are simulated via arrows, pointing to the direction of the vectors.
How we built it
We used Visual Studio Code to program our project and used the PyQt6 module to allow Python to generate a GUI for the user to interact and see the fields and charges in.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we faced was studying Maxwell's Equations since we were initially unfamiliar with all of Maxwell's Equations as well as the mathematics that they rely on.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we despite our age were capable of applying Maxwell's Equations to the project and simulating a rather accurate depiction of electric and magnetic fields, and this could be used to simulate less fundamental laws in electromagnetism like coulombs law and ohms law.
What we learned
We learned about Maxwell's Equations, Vectors and Multivariable Calculus and how to apply that into programming
What's next for ElectroMag Simulator
We hope to add wires, anions and cations so that we can simulate current flow. We also hope to simulate voltage as a scalar gradient within the grid.
