L3 Harris Challenge Hackathon Theme

What it does

Process through which we can split water → Hydrogen and Oxygen Gas By creating a voltage potential in a salt-water solution Cause NaCl to split into ions → Cause water to split as well (due to polar nature of water) Hydrogen-Oxygen Gas mixture Very explosive Desirable for propulsion of rocket

How we built it

Used: 12V 5AH Lead-Acid battery connected to: Array of machine screws (to act as our anodes and cathodes (in a salt-water solution) Connected by wires (14-Gauge & 12-Gauge) A series of tanks and tubes.

Challenges we ran into

T-Tube bought functioned as a splitter instead of combining both the flows of gas from both tanks Solution: Directly connected both electrolysis tanks to reservoir tanks Tubing was too long and failed transfer gas fuel into our rocket for launch

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully able to perform electrolysis and split water into its gas components.

What we learned

Always wear PPE (which we were wearing).

What's next for Electrolysis Rocket

It is broken. Maybe a part 2??
