Inspiration

The number of cases infected by corona virus has been increasing rapidly. While cheap testing can make it more affordable for poor countries, fast testing can help reduce the weight from hospitals and the number of infections and individuals and affecting maybe millions; therefore we plan to build our project within these two aims. Current Covid19 techniques includes PCR and other techniques, which are expensive and not affordable worldwide and this would create a burden on economy and maybe cost peoples life in poor countries. Another problem with current testing is that they do not provide fast results. One of the key steps for fighting this virus is the early diagnosis; as earlier and self-isolation can be advised and thus have a positive impact in slowing down the spread of the virus.

What it does

Our team suggest the creation of an electrochemical immunosensor for covid19 detection. It is well studied that electrochemical immunosensors using small and portable platforms such as screen-printed electrodes can provide cheaper and faster diagnosis test, lowering the price to around 5€ per test and taking no longer than 10 minutes.

How I built it

By developing an optimized procedure of an electrochemical biosensors capable to detect enough viral particles for testing purposes.

Challenges I ran into

Obtaining antibodies against Covid19. Unspecific binding from real samples

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

What I learned

What's next for Electrochemical immunosensor for Covid-19 detection
