Inspiration

Our inspiration is our love for helping others! We truly wanted to help elderly people because we are passionate about mental health and realized that elderly people's mental health was not being focused on. As a result, we created ElderHelp as a solution!

What it does

It is a mental health app targeted towards seniors with many different components that allows the elderly to reflect and improve their mental health in many different ways. This includes positive affirmations, meditation exercises, and so much more!

How we built it

We built it using Code.org's App Lab feature. The app lab feature was something we had some experience in so we decided to use App Lab as our platform.

Challenges we ran into

When we started with RSA, we were put into an anonymous group with two people we were not able to contact in person. There was a bit of miscommunication as one member was put into the group by accident when he never signed up. The conflicts led to a limited amount of time for us to finish our app and also find/contact an intern. After resolving the conflicts, we were able to meet with our intern bi-weekly and were able to construct a good plan for our app! We also had issues with the coding platform but we were able to solve it at the end! Our challenges taught us a lot about resilience, hard work, and the importance of a good work ethic along with time management and conflict. We learned a lot from RSA and we are grateful that everything worked out at the end!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are so proud that our app is a finished product. Due to our time conflicts, we had limited time in finishing our app. We are so glad that everything in our app works, functions properly, and is running smoothly!

What we learned

We learned important skills such as coding, teamwork, collaboration, time management, and so much more. We will apply these important skills in the future in school, in college, and at work!

What's next for ElderHelp

We hope to continue to expand our coding skills and taking ElderHelp to the next level. As we learn more about coding and enhance our knowledge, we hope that we could add more features (like an AI Chatbot, or Accessibility feature) to broaden ElderHelp's impact!
