🧠 Inspiration

With a growing elderly population, many seniors live independently without continuous medical supervision. Small health changes—like a drop in oxygen levels or a spike in heart rate—can go unnoticed until they become serious.

At the same time, many seniors struggle with complex technology, making it harder for them to monitor their own health or communicate issues effectively.

We built ElderEase to bridge this gap by combining simple, senior-friendly design with real-time monitoring and AI-assisted preventive care. The platform transforms raw health data into simple, actionable insights that help seniors stay safe and caregivers respond quickly during emergencies.

Our goal is to create a system that is:

  • Simple for seniors
  • Powerful for caregivers
  • Actionable in emergencies

💡 What it does

ElderEase is a real-time elderly health monitoring system designed for both patients (seniors) and guardians (caregivers/parents).

It:

  • Monitors vital health data (heart rate, SpO₂, temperature) in real time
  • Detects abnormal conditions instantly
  • Analyzes health patterns to identify warning signs before conditions become critical
  • Alerts caregivers during emergencies
  • Provides AI-powered health analysis and easy-to-understand recommendations based on real-time vital trends
  • Helps caregivers manage and monitor multiple patients efficiently

The system is designed to make healthcare monitoring accessible, understandable, and proactive.


⚙️ How we built it

  • Node-RED: Simulates IoT devices generating real-time vitals
  • Backend (Node.js + Express): Processes data, detects risks, and triggers alerts
  • MongoDB: Stores patient history, vitals, and alerts
  • Frontend (React):
    • Patient Dashboard → simple, elderly-friendly UI
    • Guardian Dashboard → advanced monitoring + alerts
  • AI Integration (MedGamma): Generates contextual, human-readable health insights and preventive recommendations for seniors and caregivers
