Inspiration

I always been interested into learning web and mobile development, and I wanted to see try if I could to create something. I feel like after this all-nighter I left this event more knowledgeable and took away many useful skills.

What it does

ELCYCER is a sustainability app, it helps the students at UTD become more knowledgeable about how they are effecting the environment. It has many different features that informs you how to be more green and some incentives for doing so.

How we built it

Planned with figma for how every was going to look. I started by watching a lot of YouTube videos on learning how to step up React-Native and the android emulator which took a while. Then everything was just watching a lot of YouTube videos and stack overflow.

Challenges we ran into

Since it was my first hackathon, I really had to start from scratch and learn everything on the go. I had trouble using firebase and implementing at login server and the U/I react-native I was unfamiliar on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Because it was my first Hackathon, I was really proud for doing the best I can and submitting a project. Also proud of the little moments where I debugged my code and got it to work.

What we learned

I felt like I learned so much, and will be using the skills to develop some web/mobile apps in my free time. Pulling my first all nighter wasn't too bad. Mobile and web development is something I want to pursue in the future.

What's next for ELCYCER

Since I didn't have enough time, I want to implement a firebase logging in system. Also a leader board so you can compete with locals around you to see who recycles the most. And more chat rooms for discussion for DIYS/Free stuff. Also a much cleaner interface, with no time limit I will be able sit down and make it look cleaner and prettier.
