Inspiration
After childbirth, most of the attention naturally shifts toward the baby. But during this period, mothers are also going through significant physical and emotional changes.
We were inspired by the gap in continuous postpartum support. Existing digital platforms often focus on pregnancy or baby-related tracking, while maternal mental wellbeing, recovery, sleep, nutrition, and emotional health receive much less attention.
This led us to one simple question:
"Who is taking care of the mother?"
Eirene was created around the belief that she matters too.
What it does
Eirene is an AI-powered postpartum wellness companion designed to support mothers throughout their recovery journey.
It brings several aspects of postpartum wellbeing into one platform:
- Emotional wellness :mood and energy check-ins, journaling, and an AI companion
- Recovery tracking :visual progress and recovery timelines
- Personalized wellness :hydration, rest, nutrition, and gentle recovery guidance
- Safety support: detection of concerning distress patterns and pathways toward professional help
Eirene is not intended to diagnose or replace healthcare professionals. Instead, it acts as a supportive wellness layer between clinical visits.
How we built it
We designed Eirene around a mother-first digital care experience.
The platform combines:
User Inputs → AI & Pattern Detection → Personalized Support → Recovery Tracking → Professional Care When Needed
The core system includes:
- One-tap mood and energy logging
- Historical mood analysis
- Pattern detection across multiple days
- Context-aware AI responses
- Recovery and wellness dashboards
- Private journaling
- Personalized reminders
- Location-based healthcare professional discovery
We also designed the platform with privacy, simplicity, and low-effort interaction in mind because postpartum mothers may be sleep-deprived, overwhelmed, and have limited time or energy.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was finding the balance between useful AI support and responsible healthcare boundaries.
Eirene deals with sensitive emotional and postpartum experiences, so we didn't want the AI to behave like a doctor or provide potentially harmful medical diagnoses.
Another challenge was designing an experience that wouldn't feel overwhelming. A new mother may not have the time or energy to fill out long forms, so we focused on micro-interactions such as one-tap check-ins and simple dashboards.
We also had to think carefully about how to detect concerning patterns while ensuring that serious situations are directed toward professional and emergency support rather than handled solely by AI.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Created a mother-first product concept that addresses an overlooked part of postpartum care.
Designed an AI-powered emotional wellness system with mood tracking, pattern detection, and contextual support.
Created a recovery tracking experience that helps mothers visualize their progress.
Integrated multiple aspects of postpartum wellness including emotional wellbeing, recovery, nutrition, hydration, and rest.
Developed a B2B2C go-to-market concept involving maternity hospitals, OB-GYN clinics, and birthing centers.
Designed a community-led growth strategy involving doulas, lactation consultants, and postpartum support groups.
Most importantly, we created Eirene around a simple idea: Postpartum care shouldn't only be about the baby.
What we learned
Through building Eirene, we learned that solving a healthcare-adjacent problem isn't just about adding AI.
It requires understanding people, emotions, safety, accessibility, and trust.
We learned to:
- Design technology around the user's actual situation
- Keep interactions simple and low-effort
- Treat AI as a support tool rather than a replacement for professionals
- Think about safety and escalation from the beginning
- Validate the problem before building features
- Consider both the user experience and the business model
Most importantly, we learned that sometimes innovation comes from asking a simple question about an overlooked user.
For us, that user was the mother.
What's next for Eirene
Our next goal is to move Eirene from an MVP into a more complete postpartum wellness platform.
1. Improve AI Personalization
Develop more sophisticated personalization based on individual recovery, mood, and wellness patterns.
2. Expand the Healthcare Ecosystem
Build partnerships with:
- Maternity hospitals
- OB-GYN clinics
- Doulas
- Lactation consultants
- Postpartum support organizations
3. Strengthen Safety Features
Improve distress-pattern detection and professional-care escalation pathways.
4. Build the Eirene Community
Create a trusted community where mothers can access resources and peer support.
5. Scale the Platform
Start with an India-focused rollout and eventually expand Eirene to mothers globally.
Our long-term vision is to make postpartum wellness continuous, personalized, accessible, and mother-centered.
