Inspiration

We believe that young generations excessively rely on social media for entertainment, posing potential risks to their health. So, we decided to combine the Cyberpunk-style backgrounds and the classical detective game to encourage young gamers to train their critical thinking while keeping the excitement.

What it does

The setting will occur in 2077 when AI revived Albert Einstein but then died mysteriously. From there, the player will begin the adventure through many levels of collecting and professionally inspecting evidence to find the murderer. The only twist here is that the player will have to finish the game in a limited amount of time and in complete darkness... which is impossible, so we gave them a cheap flashlight with the hope that they will encode the intrigue before the government comes and destroys the evidence.

How we built it

We decided not to use a game engine, so our game was built using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Our game focuses on the background image, which is obscured by the darkness. We created the spotlight effect using the clip-path property

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble clicking on the correct items as our initial approach to it was flawed. We used the clip-path feature from CSS to create our spotlight effect, but we assumed that the spotlight was cut out from the black overlay and not cut out from the background image, which it was. As a result, we tried to add our clues as individual elements to be able to click on, but we weren't able to get them in above the background image and below the black layer. We later realized this and made changes accordingly. We also ran into problems when changing scenes after a level was finished and we still have not accommodated to that issue.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of trying our hardest during our first hackathon. We faced many problems but we did our best to get past them. We were ambitious with our game and although our game didn't come out as planned, we're proud of being able to finish what we could.

What we learned

We learned a lot as this was our first hackathon. We learned how to use GitHub and work collaboratively as a team. We also ran into problems with our time usage as we could have been more efficient. We learned how to plan better and work more productively for next time.

What's next for Einstein's Enigma: Decoding the AI Intrigue

We will introduce more levels and interactable objects so the player will have a better experience exploring and finding clues. Then, we can develop it into a multiple-player game that allows everyone to solve at the advanced levels. Lastly, we will upload the game onto itch.io so the game will have the best chance to grow and become well-known.
