Inspiration
We were inspired by farming games as a whole and wanted to put a twist on it with the cloning theme.
What it does
The game follows the basic principles of a farming game, which is harvesting crops, and planting new ones. The twist comes when, in order to get more seeds, you must clone your current crops. Cloning current crops will mutate it slightly, changing the yield and how fast it grows. Cloning costs rise quickly, so you must ensure you're building the best farm.
How we built it
We built it using the Godot game engine, and used GNU Image Manipulation Program for basic pixel art.
Challenges we ran into
Originally, we had a different project, but after hours of working on it, we scrapped it and restarted with this game. It was a difficult decision, but to switch to the farming game ensured we were able to complete the project in a timely manner.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of making a small, yet fairly polished game that has a solid gameplay loop.
What we learned
We learned how to use the Godot Game Engine at a deeper level, and learned how to use UI in the engine.
AI Usage
AI was only used as essentially a search engine for things related to UI setup.
What's next for Clone Farm
Possibly different crop types, and a market system with varying sell prices.
