Inspiration
Golf can be frustrating when progress feels slow and coaching is expensive. We wanted to create an accessible way for every golfer to get personalized feedback and improve faster.
What it does
Egle AI is a personal golf swing coach in your pocket. Upload your swing and instantly receive:
- A trimmed and analyzed video with swing path and body motion overlays
- Scores for your swing technique
- A written breakdown of strengths and areas for improvement
- Personalized drills to practice
How we built it
We combined SwiftUI for a clean iOS experience with a GCP backend for video processing. Using MediaPipe and OpenCV, we track joints and swing paths. The data is passed through an LLM for biomechanical analysis, feedback, and drill recommendations.
Challenges we ran into
- Handling video uploads and ensuring fast, secure playback in-app
- Working around AI model limitations for larger video files
- Balancing on-device performance with cloud-based processing
- Designing an onboarding flow that motivates beginners while highlighting value
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Delivering a working MVP that trims, analyzes, and scores swings end-to-end
- Creating clear visual overlays that golfers instantly understand
- Building a foundation for personalized, coach-like feedback powered by AI
What we learned
- The importance of optimizing video handling for mobile to avoid memory issues
- How to design analysis outputs that feel actionable, not overwhelming
- That beginner and intermediate golfers are eager for affordable, accessible coaching
What's next for Egle AI: Golf Swing Coach
- Add more details to the drills, like example videos or photos
- Experiment with real-time on-device swing analysis (meaning users could start a session and auto capture all swings, currently we support only uploading videos one by one)
- Listening to early user feedback and improving every part of our app experience
