Inspiration
We were inspired to create this to simplify the lives of college students and remove the hassle of keeping track of grocery lists and figuring out what meals could be made with existing grocery items. By using this app, the user can ensure that all their ingredients are accounted for and have the opportunity of trying new recipes while working with what they have at hand.
What it does
Easy Eats serves to simplify the process of deciding what meals to make with pre-existing groceries, while simultaneously creating a grocery list for the user as per their recipe wish list. Our app has three main functions:
The first one can give the user recipe suggestions based on the user’s input of pre-existing groceries they have.
This data is saved and is changed as per the recipes they make, keeping track of the resources you have so the
user doesn’t have to.
The second feature creates custom grocery lists based on the user’s choice of what they want to eat for that week.
It automatically takes into account the user’s diet, allergies, and also adjusts the grocery list to the amount of
people the user would like to make food for.
The last feature allows the user to save recipes and adjust their preferences to their liking so their recipe index and
grocery list can better suit their needs.
How I built it
We used Figma to design the wireframes and mockups of the app. In our next step, we plan to code this app with Swift using XCode, along with integrating API’s to access recipe databases.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges we ran into was while building the wireframes of the website, discussing and re-evaluating the logic of the app’s pathways. As we were designing several features, we tried to discuss what pathways would be the most user-friendly while also maintaining the efficiency of our app.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We were really proud of the overall layout and elements we implemented into our app design. From the color choices to the attention to details like allergies and diets to take into consideration in our project, this project truly was a fun learning experience.
What I learned
Through this project, we were able to develop skills in design and understand the process behind prototyping. We worked through communicating effectively with team members while also retaining the cohesiveness of our design and making this app as user-friendly as possible.
What's next for Easy Eats
We would like to make our design into an app and/or website using XCode and also implementing features that can account for food expiration and calculate the price of your groceries based on the availability in stores nearby.
