Inspiration

We observed the difficulties encountered by people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The debate over exercise in DMD treatment motivated us to seek understanding. We understood that thoroughly reviewing current evidence might enhance care recommendations and quality of life for individuals with DMD.

What it does

Our goal in conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis is to assess how effective different exercise interventions are in treating DMD. We aim to offer evidence-based exercise recommendations for managing DMD by combining data from various studies, addressing worries about muscle damage and identifying helpful interventions.

How we built it

While our project is still in the proposal stage, we've carefully designed our methodology:

  • We'll conduct a thorough literature search across major medical databases.
  • We'll use strict inclusion and exclusion criteria to select relevant studies.
  • Data extraction and quality assessment will be performed by multiple reviewers.
  • We'll employ statistical techniques like meta-analysis to synthesize the findings.
  • Subgroup and sensitivity analyses will help us explore factors influencing exercise outcomes in DMD.

Challenges we ran into

Although we haven't begun the project, challenges we might run into are:

  • Heterogeneity in exercise interventions and outcome measures across studies.
  • Limited long-term data on disease progression.
  • Potential variability in study quality.
  • Balancing the need for comprehensive analysis with time and resource constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As this is a proposal, our main accomplishment so far is developing a robust, well-designed research plan that has the potential to significantly impact DMD care. We're proud of our comprehensive approach and the potential our work has to address a critical knowledge gap in the field.

What we learned

Through developing this proposal, we've gained insights into:

  • The complexity of exercise interventions in DMD.
  • The importance of rigorous systematic review methods.
  • The need for standardized outcome measures in DMD research.

What's next for the Research on Effectiveness of Exercise Intervention in Duchenne MD

Our next steps include:

  • Securing funding and ethical approvals.
  • Implementing our search strategy and beginning the review process.
  • Collaborating with clinicians to ensure our findings are translatable to practice.
  • Disseminating our results to inform clinical guidelines and future research directions.
