Inspiration

This project was inspired by my favorite basketball team, the Dallas Mavericks. I wanted to find out if the Mavericks played better or worse in states with higher horse populations. As the Mavericks have a horse as their mascot, I hypothesized that they would play better in states with more horses, as they draw strength from the horses around them.

What I learned

There is no clear correlation between the "horsiness" of a state and the Mavs' performance there. Interestingly, however, against the horsiest teams, the Mavs played below their historical average, and only had a winning record against 3 of the top 10 horsiest teams, thoroughly debunking my hypothesis.

Looking for a correlation between how well Zion Williamson plays and his proximity to Zion national park.
