Inspiration

The Education theme

What it does

It helps the user in finding the perfect EECS program and career path by asking the user questions. Then it asks the user towards the end to provide their phone number in order to receive more information via SMS with the Twilio API by sending links directing the user to official KU websites. Also includes a mass text function which will allow for future use to notify all users of platform who entered their number of any new curriculum updates.

How we built it

We used the application Pycharm, where we built the program in a virtual environment. From there, we used libraries from Twilio and Flask. The The languages that were used were: python, html, and css.

Challenges we ran into

We had struggled to get the program to work on our machines at times as our machines would say the libraries were installed, but the application stated otherwise. Mostly technical errors with the application

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We made use of something new, that being the Twilio API. We have never used anything like it before and was a blast being able to experiment with the API as we were able to connect our locally hosted website to a global scope.

What we learned

New experience with the Flask and Twilio libraries. How to implement API's in our projects.

What's next for EECS KU Info Website

The original idea was to create a web page with the addition of the Twilio API for public schools and universities. A common issue we see in websites for schools is that there are too many for a singular school, and sometimes navigating through multiple different websites can be a hassle and too confusing. With some difficulties and time conflicts, we were unable to completely achieve what we wished to. As for the future, the website will be updated in order to be one singular website. The Website will include the API we have used in order to provide alerts and notifications to the users, a chatbot to help navigate the website, a place for students to turn in their assignments, and much more. We started out with something small that still holds value to what we believe we can accomplish.
