EE Solve — Electrical Engineering Formula Calculator

What inspired me

As a first year Electrical Engineering student, I kept wasting time rearranging formulas by hand during problem sets and labs. One wrong sign and the whole calculation breaks. I wanted a tool that just works — pick your formula, pick what you're solving for, get the answer.

What I learned

I learned how to build a real React app from scratch using vibe coding and AI tools. I had never deployed a web app before this hackathon. In 2 days I went from idea to a live deployed product — that alone changed how I see what's possible.

How I built it

  • React + Vite for the frontend
  • Tailwind CSS for the dark theme UI
  • Each formula dynamically rearranges based on which variable the user wants to solve for
  • Unit conversions built into every input field
  • Claude API for the AI explanation feature
  • Deployed on Vercel

Challenges I faced

The hardest part was making the formulas flexible — the same formula like $V = IR$ needs to work as $I = \frac{V}{R}$ and $R = \frac{V}{I}$ depending on what the user clicks. Building that dynamic solver cleanly took the most work.

What's next

Adding more advanced formulas — RLC circuits, Kirchhoff's laws, AC impedance — and eventually a circuit diagram visualizer.
