An example conversation with Spongebob!

Inspiration

We wanted to create a project that would help children learn in a fun way.

What it does

The user can choose from one of three characters: either Dora, Goofy, or Spongebob. Then, they will be able to ask that character a question related to science and math and get a fun, silly, yet clear and thorough explanation.

How we built it

First, we went through ideation and determined how the project would look and how we envisioned the user experience. Then, we split up into a backend and frontend team, and we familiarized ourselves with the technologies needed to build each part of the project. Once we finished with frontend and backend, we joined together to figure out how to integrate the two and touch up the final product.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first hackathon, so we went in unsure of what to expect. Once we got into ideation, things started to flow more smoothly, but our first challenges happened after actually starting the process of building the project. We were unfamiliar with using HTTP calls in python, designing with Figma, and using JQuery, but after collaborating and discussing possible solutions as a team (as well as doing a lot of googling), we overcame these challenges to finalize our project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We customized the chat bot so that it would talk like popular cartoon characters. Other features include a back button and having the elements of the page fade in.
