Inspiration

In many parts of the world, students — especially girls and women — face a significant barrier to education due to poor or nonexistent internet access. While technology is advancing rapidly in areas like AI and automation, access to basic educational tools is still a luxury in low-connectivity regions. That’s what inspired me to create EduWeb: a smart, offline-first platform that ensures learning never stops — even when the internet does.

What it does

In many parts of the world, students — especially girls and women — face a significant barrier to education due to poor or nonexistent internet access. While technology is advancing rapidly in areas like AI and automation, access to basic educational tools is still a luxury in low-connectivity regions. That’s what inspired me to create EduWeb: a smart, offline-first platform that ensures learning never stops — even when the internet does.

How we built it

EduWeb is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that delivers offline education with an integrated AI chatbot assistant. It allows users to:

Access lessons, quizzes, and subject-specific content offline Interact with a TensorFlow.js-powered chatbot (MobileBERT) that answers learning queries Automatically sync progress and updates when internet becomes available Navigate a clean, mobile-friendly UI built for accessibility and speed It’s a learning companion designed for communities with limited connectivity, where traditional EdTech platforms fail to reach.

Challenges we ran into

Running a full NLP model in-browser, offline, without lag was a major hurdle Handling context switching between subjects while keeping it lightweight Managing offline storage limits across browsers UI/UX optimization for low-end devices and screen sizes Extensive debugging with TensorFlow.js, especially in offline modeRunning a full NLP model in-browser, offline, without lag was a major hurdle Handling context switching between subjects while keeping it lightweight Managing offline storage limits across browsers UI/UX optimization for low-end devices and screen sizes Extensive debugging with TensorFlow.js, especially in offline mode

Accomplishments that we're proud of

🏅 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of Built an entire AI-powered PWA from scratch without a team Proved that you can build powerful, ethical AI for real-world impact — alone

What we learned

Deep understanding of TensorFlow.js and PWA capabilities How to build a real AI chatbot that’s both fast and privacy-first Designing for offline-first is harder, but makes technology far more inclusive Importance of purpose-driven tech and building solutions with empathy You don’t need a big team to build something meaningful. Just focus and persistence.

What's next for EDUWEB - MANYA VALECHA

Add multilingual support for regional inclusivity Integrate JobsForHer APIs for real-time career listings & mentorships Improve chatbot with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) and session memory Collaborate with NGOs or rural schools to deploy EduWeb where it's needed most Open it as a template for other developers to build offline-first educational tools Pitch for grants or social impact incubators to scale EduWeb into a deployable solution across India and beyond
