Inspiration
We noticed that high-quality educational content is often trapped behind laptop screens or mobile devices, making collaborative household learning difficult. We wanted to build a lean, interactive streaming experience that brings classroom engagement straight to the family living room.
What it does
EduStream TV is a web-wrapped smart television platform built for Amazon devices. It allows students to stream educational video content, interact with real-time pop quizzes using a simple layout, and follow guided study pathways directly on a television screen.
How we built it
The frontend dashboard was structured using React and styled with clean CSS media queries optimized for larger television viewports. The application logic runs on a lightweight Node.js backend. We then wrapped the hosted web application to ensure standard navigation handling.
Challenges we ran into
The toughest challenge was handling input constraints since smart TV platforms rely heavily on standard remote control layouts rather than traditional mouse and keyboard actions. We resolved this by building strict focus states and grid-based navigation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a highly responsive, layout-friendly interface that feels native to a TV environment while keeping the underlying codebase modular and fast to load.
What we learned
We gained valuable insights into designing UI workflows specifically for large viewports and learned how to optimize rendering performance for embedded hardware environments.
What's next for EduStream TV
We plan to introduce deeper customization tools, localized offline cached videos, and voice commands to make navigation even more natural for younger audiences.
