Our EduSpark Project Journey

Inspiration

EduSpark was inspired by our collective desire to bridge gaps in educational access and quality. Our goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or location, has access to high-quality education through technology. We aimed to address educational disparities and leverage technology to provide equitable learning opportunities on a global scale.

What It Does

EduSpark is designed to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. The platform connects students, educators, and educational resources in a seamless and interactive environment, making education accessible to everyone. Key features include:

  • Interactive Tutor Map: Allows users to click on regions to view available tutors and subjects. This feature is still under development.
  • Subject Listings: Provides a static list of top subjects across various education levels.
  • Detailed Tutor Profiles: Displays tutor profiles, though some functionality is still being finalized.

How We Built It

EduSpark has transitioned from the conceptual stage to a partially developed website. Here’s how we built it:

  • Website Development: We utilized HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT to create the foundational elements of the website.
  • Interactive Features: Started implementing features like the interactive map and detailed tutor profiles. Some features are still nonfunctional.
  • Technology Stack: Chose technologies that support both current functionality and future enhancements.

Challenges We Ran Into

As a team, we faced several challenges:

  • Interactive Map Integration: Developing a fully functional interactive map has been complex, and some features are still in progress.
  • Feature Functionality: Ensuring all planned features are operational has been challenging, with some still under development.
  • Feedback Incorporation: Collecting and integrating feedback while working on incomplete features has been an ongoing process.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Website Foundation: Successfully developed a foundational website with core elements of EduSpark.
  • Team Collaboration: Effectively collaborated as a team to build interactive and user-friendly components, even if some are still under development.
  • Constructive Feedback: Received valuable feedback that will guide our future improvements and refinements.

What We Learned

  • Effective Teamwork: The importance of working collaboratively and addressing challenges together.
  • User-Centric Design: The value of focusing on user needs and feedback to continuously improve the platform.
  • Iterative Development: Understanding the necessity of ongoing development and refinement based on feedback and technological advancements.

What's Next for EduSpark

  • Complete Feature Development: Finalizing and making all features fully functional.
  • Hackathon Presentation: Preparing to present EduSpark at the Girlcode Hackathon 2024 to gather additional feedback and insights.
  • User Testing: Conducting user testing with the current website to identify areas for improvement.
  • Continuous Enhancement: Refining and expanding the platform based on feedback and new developments to ensure it effectively meets users' needs.

Our journey with EduSpark has been both challenging and rewarding. As a team, we look forward to continuing to enhance the platform and expand its impact on educational accessibility.
