Inspiration
In Nigeria, many students struggle to keep up with lessons because English isnโt their first language, making it hard to fully understand complex subjects. For others, especially hearing-impaired students, traditional teaching methods simply donโt provide the access they need. Teachers often spend extra time repeating themselves or creating notes manually, and still, many learners are left behind. We wanted to solve this by making classrooms more inclusive, accessible, and future-ready. Thatโs how EduScribe was born.
What it does
EduScribe is an AI-powered classroom assistant that helps students and teachers in multiple ways: ๐ Transcription: Converts spoken lessons into text. ๐ Summarization: Creates clear, structured notes from long classes. ๐ Translation: Turns lessons into local Nigerian languages (and beyond) for better comprehension. ๐ Accessibility: Provides instant transcripts for hearing-impaired students.
How we built it
We built EduScribe using c# web api + next.js Speech-to-text engine (powered by Spitch API) for accurate transcription and translation to local languages.
Challenges we ran into
Handling spitch api possible errors and ensuring trancription accurracy
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully integrating translation for accessibility in local languages.
What we learned
How to work with external APIs like Spitch for speech recognition and translation.
What's next for EduScribe
Supporting real-time transcription during live classes, so students can follow lessons as they happen and review them later.
