Inspiration

Education should feel personal, yet most students learn through one-size-fits-all videos, textbooks, and classrooms. Many hesitate to ask questions because they fear being judged or simply don't have access to a tutor when they need one. We wanted to create an AI-powered learning platform that gives every student a patient, knowledgeable teacher available 24/7. Our vision was to transform passive learning into an interactive experience where students can ask questions freely, receive personalized explanations, and truly understand concepts.

What it does

EduRashi is an AI-powered learning platform that combines structured video lessons with an intelligent tutor built using OpenAI's models. Students can: Watch high-quality educational videos. Pause at any time to ask questions in natural language. Receive personalized, step-by-step explanations tailored to their level of understanding. Explore difficult concepts through analogies, examples, and guided questioning rather than simply receiving answers. Access prerequisite lessons whenever they struggle with a topic. Practice with AI-generated questions and receive immediate feedback.

How we built it

EduRashi was built using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS for the frontend. OpenAI's models power the conversational tutoring experience, enabling natural language understanding, personalized explanations, guided learning, and intelligent question answering. During OpenAI Build Week, we used Codex to accelerate development, implement many features, refactor components, and improve the overall architecture of the platform. The project integrates modern AI-assisted development practices with a scalable web architecture to create a responsive and interactive educational experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was designing an AI tutor that teaches rather than simply gives answers. We wanted EduRashi to encourage genuine understanding by asking guiding questions, adapting explanations, and identifying misconceptions. Another challenge was integrating AI seamlessly into the learning experience so that conversations, lesson navigation, and educational content all felt like one cohesive product rather than separate features. Balancing AI capabilities with an intuitive user experience required multiple iterations and careful prompt design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built an interactive AI learning platform instead of a simple chatbot. Created a personalized tutoring experience powered by OpenAI models. Successfully combined video-based learning with conversational AI. Designed an experience that encourages understanding rather than memorization. Leveraged Codex during development to rapidly build, iterate, and improve new functionality. Most importantly, we're proud of building a platform that has the potential to make high-quality education

What we learned

Building EduRashi during OpenAI Build Week fundamentally changed how we approach software development. Throughout the project, we became deeply immersed in using Codex as a collaborative engineering partner rather than just a code generator. Instead of treating AI as a tool for writing isolated snippets of code, we used Codex to understand our existing codebase, plan features, refactor components, debug complex issues, and iterate rapidly on new ideas. As we relied on it more throughout development, we learned how to write clearer prompts, break ambitious features into manageable tasks, and maintain a productive back-and-forth workflow that accelerated development without sacrificing code quality.

What's next for EduRashi

Our vision is to evolve EduRashi into a complete AI learning companion. Future plans include: Long-term learning memory that adapts to each student's strengths and weaknesses. Personalized learning paths generated by AI. Voice-based tutoring and real-time conversations. AI-generated quizzes, assignments, and progress tracking. Teacher dashboards with AI-powered insights. Support for multiple subjects, curricula, and languages. Ultimately, we want EduRashi to provide every student with the equivalent of a personal tutor—available anytime, anywhere.
