Blockade Math

Inspiration

I wanted to create a better way for kids to learn math. Kids today spend so much time on devices. I see it every day with my nephews. They spend hours on cartoons and games. I kept thinking what if that screen time built real skills instead?

Blockade Math is my answer. An interactive game that makes math simple and visual. Learning should feel like play and numbers should feel easy.

What It Does

Blockade Math is a visual game with 10 levels for kids in grades 1 to 3. Each level covers a key concept like adding, subtracting, multiplying or telling time. These skills build the foundation for all other math. The game uses colorful blocks and simple animations so kids can really see how numbers work.

How I Built It

I built Blockade Math using React, Vite and CSS. It runs fully on the front end so it is fast and works on most computers. There are no logins, downloads or ads.

I used an AI assistant to test ideas faster. Most of it was built during evenings after my day job. My nephews tested the game and their feedback shaped it.

Challenges I Faced

Testing was hard since I did not have access to many kids or schools. I relied on family feedback and looked at how kids learn in other places. I was inspired by learning models that treat students like players solving levels.

Accomplishments

I am proud my nephews think I am cool now. But more than that I am proud this project supports the goal of better education. In Kenya and Africa we need better tools for kids. I hope Blockade Math shows what is possible.

What I Learned

Good ideas take time. I learned how important it is to understand how kids learn and what keeps them engaged. Small tests and real feedback made it better.
