Inspiration

Millions of students struggle to choose the right career path due to limited access to guidance, mentorship, and clarity around how academic subjects connect to real careers. This often results in wrong major choices, wasted time, and missed opportunities.

What it does

EduPath is an AI-powered career exploration platform that helps students discover career paths based on their interests, understand which subjects they should study, and connect directly with mentors and professors. By combining AI guidance, mentorship, and real opportunities in one place, EduPath turns confusion into clarity.

How we built it

We created this app using the programming languages Javascript, Typescript, and CSS. Each team member was responsible for a certain role. Amina was responsible for the frontend, Jaspreet was responsible for the backend, Josh was responsible for the AI and presentation.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge Amina faced was the amount of errors I run into while creating the code for frontend. For my role, I used Tailwind to build the screens. When I initially installed it, the first version was unsupported by Github, so I had to downgrade to another version. A challenge Jaspreet watch to commit the backend coding to repository, I ran into variuos error and dublication of folder's names. Then, I had to create a new terminal to finally execute the solution and commit backend into to repository, Joshua faced difficulties merging backend, frontend, and AI design together on the GitHub platform. Further enhancement and design of the frontend UI; including transitions, animations, color themes, links, and caption-phrasing for each of the "buttons" proved to be time-consuming and challenging, as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to resolve the issues and create an end product that we were all happy with.

What we learned

Before this hackathon, we had no experience with Javascript, Typescript, and CSS. After yesterday, we can confidently say that we have real experience working with these languages, as we had to learn everything on the spot, along the way--a method of learning that tends to leave a deeper imprint on a person compared to more "traditional" learning methods. We learned how to successfully utilize GitHub to work together as a team (push, pull, codespaces, etc.). We refined our skills working in a team, improving our sense of communication and improving our ability to make decisions concerning project-vision and scope in an efficient, professional manner.

What's next for EduPath

On the project section of our app, they all send the user to Github pages; in the future, we want this section have more variety. For the professor section of our demo, it is less detailed than our section and leads to sections for students; we want to create more clickable tree braches for professors. Furthermore, we want to create a chatbot for our app.
