EduNova: Preventing School Dropout Through Early Risk Detection

About the Project

EduNova is an educational technology platform designed to help schools identify students who may be at risk of dropping out before the situation becomes irreversible.

The idea was inspired by a real problem in many education systems: schools often react when a student has already stopped attending, failed multiple subjects, or disconnected from the learning process. We wanted to build a tool that helps teachers, counselors, and school leaders act earlier, using data to detect warning signs and support students on time.

EduNova analyzes key indicators such as attendance, academic performance, behavior, grade repetition, age-for-grade mismatch, and other relevant factors. Based on this information, the platform helps generate early alerts, organize student cases, and guide school staff toward better intervention decisions.

What We Built

We built a platform where schools can register and monitor student information, identify risk levels, and manage follow-up actions. Instead of having scattered data across notebooks, spreadsheets, or informal reports, EduNova centralizes the information in one place and turns it into actionable insights.

The system is designed to support different school roles, including teachers, counselors, and administrators. Each user can better understand which students need attention, why they are at risk, and what actions can be taken to help them stay in school.

A simplified version of the risk logic can be represented as:

$$ RiskScore = AttendanceRisk + AcademicRisk + BehaviorRisk + SocialRisk $$

This allows the platform to classify students by priority and help schools focus their efforts where they are needed most.

How We Built It

We developed EduNova as a functional software solution focused on real educational impact. The project combines data analysis, user-centered design, and artificial intelligence to make school dropout prevention more proactive.

The platform was built with a web-based architecture, allowing schools to access it from different devices. We focused on creating a clean and understandable interface so that both technical and non-technical users could use it without difficulty.

Our goal was not only to create a dashboard, but to build a decision-support system that helps schools move from reaction to prevention.

Challenges We Faced

One of the biggest challenges was transforming a complex social and educational problem into a simple and useful digital experience. School dropout is not caused by only one factor, so we had to think carefully about how to combine different indicators without making the system confusing.

Another challenge was designing the platform for real users. Teachers and counselors already have many responsibilities, so EduNova needed to be practical, fast, and easy to understand.

We also had to think about how to present sensitive student information responsibly, making sure the platform supports students instead of labeling them negatively.

What We Learned

Through this project, we learned that technology can be powerful when it is connected to a real human problem. We also learned that building an educational platform is not only about coding features; it is about understanding the people who will use it and the students who may benefit from it.

We learned how important early intervention is, and how data can help schools make better decisions when it is organized, visual, and easy to act on.

Why EduNova Matters

EduNova matters because every student deserves the opportunity to continue learning. By helping schools detect risk earlier, organize follow-up, and take action faster, EduNova aims to reduce dropout rates and strengthen student retention.

Our vision is to make EduNova a tool that supports schools, empowers educators, and gives more students a chance to stay connected to their education and their future.
