Inspiration

Honestly, we built this because we were sick of boring study apps. We wanted something that felt more like a game and less like homework. We thought, "What if studying felt as fun and competitive as playing Fortnite or as satisfying as leveling up in a RPG?" So we decided to build the app we wished we had

What it does

EduNexus is basically the ultimate study buddy. It’s got a super-smart AI that can actually guess what you’re about to get stuck on. You can battle AI in live coding challenges, scan your math homework with your phone for instant help, and track your progress on a cool skill tree that grows as you learn. It’s one place for all your subjects, from coding to calculus

How we built it

We built the frontend with React and Chakra UI, backend with Node.js and Socket.io for real-time features, integrated OpenAI API and Google Vision AI for the smart features, used Base44 for efficient data handling, stored everything in MongoDB, and deployed on Vercel and Railway.

Challenges we ran into

The Live Battles were tough. Keeping the editors in sync for two people in real time had us pulling our hair out for a bit. Making the AI actually helpful was harder than it sounds. We spent a lot of time working prompts to get it to explain things like a friend, not a textbook. Juggling all the features without the app becoming slow was a constant battle. We had to learn to optimize as we built

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It’s actually fun to use. We find ourselves testing the battle arena just for fun, which is a great sign. The moment,,When we saw the AI correctly predict a confusing math concept and explain it perfectly, we knew we had built something special

What we learned

AI is powerful, but it needs guidance. You can’t just plug it in and expect magic you have to design for it. Teamwork is everything. Learning to merge code, communicate clearly, and trust each other’s skills was the most important part of this whole journey
