Inspiration
Since the pandemic, online learning has become a norm for most students, especially for higher education. With only a computer and Wi-Fi connection, people can learn everywhere in the world. However, without a traditional classroom setting, it is easy to feel like ourselves against the whole world because we have no one to turn to when we’re having problems with our course. Or we can simply just feel lonely due to the lack of interaction with people who we are actually going to school with, and we don’t feel belonged to any community on campus. Therefore, having a way to connect with others, being social, and collaborate academically is life-saving.
What it does
EduMeet is designed to help students to connect not only on a big scale such as campus, but also on a small scale, for example, classrooms, organizations, … Not only it will help you make friends, be social, but also improve your academic journey.
How we built it
We started the project on Firebase which is our backend. Then, for frontend, we used XML, and the whole app was written in Java
Challenges we ran into
We started the team with 4 people. However, the other two backed out the day we started, so we had to start over, and finished the project with only two people. Also, we were working with technologies that we had barely used before, so we also had to check out its documentation while coding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to write an app and design a logo in such a short amount of time is something we take pride in. This is the first Hackathon we joined, so to do what we have done is pretty out of our mind.
What we learned
Team-working, communicating, and new technical skills are things that we have learned in such a short amount of time, yet it is extremely valuable for us.
What's next for EduMeet
We hope to continue adding more features that we intended in the beginning. Although this is just the beginning and our rough draft, we think this app is valuable, especially, when we are locating in different countries and time zones in the world.
