Inspiration
As international students, we often found ourselves in a situation where we had different strengths in various subjects, but no easy way to exchange skills. We were classmates, and we started helping each other out—teaching and learning from one another. This experience showed us the immense value in skill-sharing and the positive impact it had on our learning process.
This sparked the idea to create an app that would help all students find others with complementary skills, allowing them to teach and learn from each other. We specifically wanted to address the challenge that international students face when it comes to finding people who can help them or whom they can teach.
What it does
EduMatch is an app designed to connect students by matching them based on the skills they can teach and the skills they want to learn. The app uses a matching system to connect students with others who have complementary skills, making it easier to exchange knowledge.
How we built it
We started building EduMatch with the goal of creating a user-friendly platform that could connect students based on the skills they can teach and the skills they want to learn. We wanted to make it simple for students to sign up, set up a profile with their skills, and match with others who had complementary skills.
Challenges we ran into
As with any project, we encountered several challenges along the way. The main one was making the app accessible to international students, ensuring language barriers and cultural differences wouldn’t be an obstacle.
Another challenge was balancing the technical side of building the app while also ensuring the user interface was intuitive and easy to use. We worked hard to create an app that was both functional and visually appealing.

What we learned
During this process, we learned the power of community and collaboration. By exchanging skills with each other, we realized how much more effective learning becomes when it’s collaborative. We also learned that many students face similar challenges—not just international students—when it comes to finding people to help or to teach.
What's next for EduMatch
We will be continue developing our app so that it has both an appealing interface and a powerful backend to support a seamless experience for users.
