Inspiration

Millennium village project: give African 1000 dollars, didn't change their living conditions - they need self-improvement for sustainable development. We are not the first one to solve the problem. However, most current applications and solutions do not solve the problem effectively with low cost that Africa people can afford

What it does

For $ 1 per month, Edumate empowers 0.5 billion African entrepreneurs to learn practical business skills to grow their businesses and raise the welfare of their communities in highly impactful, no more than 5-minute videos. We aim to create an education technology platform providing short and simple technical courses that can empower African MSMEs to grow sustainably and raise the welfare of their communities.

How we built it

Technically, we form the whole structure of the product and pitchbook through Notion and Pitch, and we build the demo through Figma. In Business wise, we build the structure by leveraging our strong understanding and community connections in Africa market from Tong, and in-depth market research.

Challenges we ran into

We meet difficulty at the beginning when we tried to find out one business leader in Africa community. However, we use our business sense and insight to help Pauline, typical client in Kenya, who are doing her own small business, to grow her business, from 1$/day to 30$/day. This impressive example helps us a lot in the expansion in local Africa community.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have successfully built several connections in East Africa, which implies that our business is practical and impactful in East Africa.

What we learned

We learned how to build the product from scratch and how to expand our business through the connection with local community leaders.

What's next for Edum8

We are planning to expand first in Kenya, then in the all English-speaking East Africa countries, and then expand to West Africa, which are most French speaking countries, and then expand to North Aftica
